You’ re Not Reacting to the Moment— You’ re Reacting to the Meaning

Here’ s the part most of us were never shown:
It’ s usually not life itself that throws us off— it’ s the way our mind interprets what’ s happening.
And when we don’ t pause to question those thoughts, they quickly turn into stories— stories that shape how we feel, how we respond, and how we experience the world around us.
But those thoughts? They’ re not always accurate, wise, or aligned with your soul.
So, let’ s drop into the heart of this. Because if you’ re reading this, there’ s a good chance your mind has been running a little louder than your inner wisdom. And I want to help you shift that.
Maybe you’ ve noticed it happen in the middle of your day— you’ re moving along just fine, and then out of nowhere, a thought pulls you under. A worry. A memory. A doubt. A fear. A quiet what if that wraps itself around your peace. And suddenly you feel off … ungrounded … unsteady … less like yourself.
If that resonates, I’ m right here with you. And please know this: nothing about that moment means you’ re doing anything wrong. It’ s simply your mind doing what minds do. Most of us were never shown how to meet that moment with clarity or compassion.
Let’ s talk about what’ s actually happening beneath the surface.
You’ re Not Reacting to the Moment— You’ re Reacting to the Meaning
Once you begin to see this, something else becomes clear. The emotional reaction you feel in your body often has very little to do with the moment itself. That tightness in your chest, the knot in your stomach, or the wave of emotion that seems to come out of nowhere is usually your body responding to how your mind interpreted what just happened— often before you even had time to notice.
I didn’ t fully understand this until I saw it play out in a very real moment of my own.
I remember a moment that made this unmistakably clear. A woman confronted me one day, convinced I had disrespected her. I could tell she was overwhelmed by something else entirely, but in that moment, her mind created a story about me.
