In order to change the minute that you’ re in right now, you must release the energetic imprint of old memories. This doesn’ t mean pretending the past wasn’ t real or minimizing what happened to you. It simply means making peace with those stories, so they no longer run the show.
The past is over. The future isn’ t here yet. There is only now.
It’ s both a fortunate and unfortunate condition that our cells hold the memory of every thought and feeling we’ ve ever had— even the ones we weren’ t aware of at the time. Those memories live in the body as patterns, reactions, cravings, and aversions. They quietly influence how safe you feel, how visible you allow yourself to be, and how much joy you think you’ re allowed to have.
To create a life you truly love, you must take control of two things:
• Existing emotional patterns stored in your brain and unconscious mind
• Emotions that are less than supportive or life-giving
As Dr. Joe Dispenza says, you must“ break the habit of being you.”
Belief systems are simply patterns and habits formed as you witnessed or participated in past events. The reactions you experienced when you were young created pathways in your brain, and those pathways now shape your actions and decisions.
Here’ s a simple( and slightly silly) example.
Imagine that when you were three years old, your mother insisted you eat peas— even though you hated them. She made you sit at the dinner table until every pea was gone. You were stubborn. You sat there for hours, eating one pea every half hour until bedtime. Sometimes you fell asleep at the table, pea still on your fork.
Fast forward to adulthood.
You refuse to cook peas. You never sit at the dinner table because it feels uncomfortable and vaguely torturous. You eat dinner on the couch, plate on your lap, television blaring. This one distasteful experience quietly became a belief.
