that only the person who caused the problem should fix it. So, whoever is to“ blame” has to clean it up. This goes all the way back to something breaking in your house and your mom saying,“ Who did that?” while you and your siblings start pointing fingers at each other, trying to avoid the punishment. We’ ve been conditioned over time through parenting, schooling, sports, jobs, and life to never be“ to blame” for something gone wrong. And that the wrongdoer is the one who“ cleans up the mess.”

This has resulted in humans who are very averse to having anything, no matter how small or even appropriately placed, be their fault. They typically don’ t want to consider even being a part of the problem, let alone the cause of the problem. It’ s really important to them that someone else is blamed.

No one wants to take personal responsibility, because they falsely think that means it was all their fault, which also makes them wrong, which also means they lose. And now we are back to a cardinal rule of Demand Relationship: never be the loser, so find ways to blame others.

Somewhere along the path in our history with the“ don’ t ever be wrong about anything” garbage, personal responsibility became a dirty phrase.(…)
