Here are four simple ways to stay balanced through the winter months, without dieting or feeling like you’ re missing out.
1. Nourish Yourself Inside & Out
Drink Lots of Water
So often when we think we’ re hungry, we’ re actually just thirsty. Staying hydrated can keep cravings in check, boost your energy, and support digestion.
At parties or gatherings, drink a glass of water between alcoholic beverages. You’ ll take in fewer calories, stay clear-headed, and feel so much better the next morning. Bonus: holding a glass of water keeps your hands busy, helping you avoid mindless snacking.
Hydration also helps your skin stay soft and radiant during the dry winter months. Think of it as an inside-out beauty treatment.
Don’ t Skip Meals
If you go hungry all day, you’ ll end up famished and reaching for whatever is quick, and easy – usually unhealthy carbs and empty calories. Instead, eat plenty of lean protein and veggies throughout the day so you’ re not starving.
Add In Plenty of Protein
Make sure you get one full serving( a palmsized portion) of protein at every meal. It will fill you up and you’ ll have less room or desire for desserts and other less-than-healthy stuff.
Fill Half Your Plate with Veggies
Those buttery rolls and sausage balls are so tempting! Go ahead, have a few. But if your plate is already half full of veggies, you won’ t have room to overdo it. If you go to potluck event, YOU bring the veggie tray. The fiber makes you feel full so you’ ll eat less and you’ ll get lots of vitamins and nutrients to give your energy level a boost. Plus you won’ t go home bloated or full of regret.
2. Move Your Body in Ways That Feel Good
Sedentary activities, such as sitting on the couch watching television, are common in wintertime. Cold weather, extra events, and stress can make it hard to find the time, or energy, to move our bodies. But don’ t use the cold weather as an excuse to be a couch potato.
Bundle up for a brisk walk, have a snowball fight, shovel the driveway, or just dance around your living room to your favorite
