Summer Stillness &

The Art of Savoring

BY JESSICA BANE ROBERT

Magic arrives with summer. The lengthen in days of aliveness in the Northeast emerge with the sounds of peepers and birds, the scents of blooms and freshly cut grass— and suddenly, our lives naturally shift toward the outdoors. For many, this is the season of“ more”— more family gatherings, more time in the sun, and more travel and adventure. It is a vibrant, high-energy time where the world feels full of possibility.

However, amidst the excitement of beach trips, garden harvests, and backyard barbecues, it can be easy to let the season slip through our fingers like sand. We can feel the pull to do and see everything, all while navigating the complexities of our modern world. In midlife, we also carry the memories of those who used to share these summer rituals with us— loved ones who are no longer at the table but whose presence we still carry.
So, what’ s the antidote to the fleeting summer season? It is to embrace the art of savoring. Summer presents the perfect canvas for this mindfulness practice. The landscape is in full, glorious bloom, and the light is at its peak. So, I invite you to pause with me and honor the art of savoring to truly inhabit these golden months and honor the love and aliveness that can remain with us throughout every season.
